Abstract
-
The activation and deactivation rate constants for deuterated methyl fluoride and methyl chloride have been determined. For CD(,3)F activation of the (nu)(,1), (nu)(,4) state occurs with a rate constant of 680 msec('-1) torr('-1); for CD(,3)Cl the (nu)(,1) state is populated with a rate constant of 490 msec('-1) torr('-1) and the (nu)(,3) state, 52 msec('-1) torr('-1). Self deactivation of CD(,3)F occurs with a rate constant of 0.44 msec('-1) torr('-1) while for CD(,3)Cl this process exhibits double exponential behavior resolving to 51 msec('-1) torr('-1) and 2.8 msec('-1) torr('-1). The data is discussed in light of existing theoretical models.
