Abstract
During the past several years, the need for continuing education for social work practitioners has been recognized as more and more important. The project described was to develop a training program with the social work staff at Children's Village, a residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed boys located in Dobbs Ferry, New York.;The body of this report addresses itself to an identification of the specific practice and philosophical concepts utilized in the development of a training curriculum; the organizational factors and processes considered in implementation; the actual process of implementation and a consideration of the results. Of secondary interest are two hypotheses related to self actualization and group cohesion.;Emphasis was placed on the specific nature of the project which involved the participation of those to be trained in the actual identification and development of the training curriculum. Implicit throughout the duration of the project was a value system which speaks to consumer participation in the development of those programs that will affect them.;In terms of the actual planning sessions, the works of Lewin, Knowles, Schwartz and Northern are heavily drawn on in developing a rationale for staff involvement.;The project developed a six course curriculum that has been delivered at the agency.;In the concluding chapter, an attempt is made to identify those issues and problems that should be of concern to anyone attempting to implement a project similar in nature to this one. It is suggested that the findings may be generically applied to projects dealing with different subject matter.
