Abstract
-
The effects of output limiting in the form of peak clipping on preferred listening levels (PLL) and intelligibility performance (NU#6 monosyllabic word lists) for hearing impaired listeners were evaluated using two frequency response conditions (0 dB/octave, +6 dB/octave) in quiet and noise (+7 dB S/N). Three output limiting levels were used: 120, 110 and 100 dB SSPL. Results indicated that, particularly in noise, group PLL's were reduced as the output limiting level was reduced. This compensatory adjustment had the effect of maintaining intelligibility at relatively high values, when compared with intelligibility performance at higher presentation levels.
