Abstract
-
The question explored in this study is: What happens to international industrial shares in the developed world when relative wages vary from one country to the next? The countries in the sample for this empirical analysis are the nine Common Market countries, the United States, Canada, and Japan; and the industries discussed are the textile, apparel, furniture, chemicals, and electrical machinery industries. Using various scaled measures of output shares and wages, it was found that, significantly, a majority of the variation in a country's industry share can be explained by the variation in relative wages alone.
