Abstract
-
A special kind of education will be needed to meet the needs and desires of a large segment of hitherto under-represented adult students. Programs can be designed to help overcome the logistical, family, financial, and academic problems unique to their situation.;Perpetuating the present apparatus of the educational bureaucracy preserves the structural "fixedness" of the academic community and may be a stumbling block to the development of realistic programming for culturally alienated groups.;A "Slow Walk" into higher education, on a path of flexible school structure and step-progression education, is one means of improving college services to disadvantaged adult students to help them survive in a middle-class industrial society.
