Abstract
The present study includes six chapters: Chapter I deals with the history of sixteenth-century Hungary; Chapter II discusses the forerunners of the epic song, its flowering, and present-day developments; Chapter III covers the source material; Chapter IV deals with analysis of the epic songs; Chapter V is a summary of the stylistic characteristics of the sixteenth-century epic songs; and Chapter VI includes modern transcriptions of the epic songs.
