Taxol 1a, Cephalomannine 1b and Baccatin III 1c are polyoxy- genated diterpenoids isolated from Taxus species.;(DIAGRAM, TABLE OR GRAPHIC OMITTED...PLEASE SEE DAI).;Two key aspects in the synthesis of these compounds have been investigated. In the first phase a method was developed which is.;applicable to the construction of the Oxetane (D ring)/tertiary acetate grouping of Taxol (Baccatin III, Cephalomannine).;(DIAGRAM, TABLE OR GRAPHIC OMITTED...PLEASE SEE DAI).;In the second phase model studies have been carried out in.;development of an intramolecular photocycloaddition approach applicable in the construction of the Taxane skelton.;(DIAGRAM, TABLE OR GRAPHIC OMITTED...PLEASE SEE DAI).
