Abstract

A Continuous time Markov chain model for asynchronous communication spread spectrum code division multiple access network and a Markov chain model for CDMA with busy tone and code sensing for asynchronous channel are developed. The network is composed of N stations, the message generation process at the stations is assumed to be poisson.;Spreading code protocols are discussed, the receiver-based code is considered; a station with a packet to send looks up the destination's code and transmits on that code. Our approach is based on a two-dimensional Markov chain model for the asynchronous code division multiple access network (CDMA) and is used to evaluate throughput-delay tradeoffs.;Steady state results for throughput versus offered traffic and the delay versus throughput are obtained. The model is illustrated by examples; stability of the network is discussed. Comparison between ALOHA and CDMA is discussed; the discussion is illustrated by examples.
