Abstract: This dissertation examines the plight of the patient with cystic fibrosis. It is based on short interviews with cystic fibrosis patients and health care providers, and on observations in a hospital setting. The dissertation draws upon the sociology of medicine, the sociology of death and dying, and on the sociology of deviance.
