Abstract: The recent turbulence in certain financial markets has rekindled interest in the relationship between these markets and other sectors of the economy. This study focuses on the relationship between indebtedness and the real investment decisions of the firm. It consists of an empirical investigation using an accelerator-residual funds model applied to a sample constructed from financial data from approximately 2500 firms and then surveys recent macroeconomic models that have included indebtedness as a variable.
