Abstract
-
This thesis deals with consequences and implications of small business activities among Koreans in Queens, New York City. Based on field research, this study focuses on the impact upon their cultural ideologies of this shift to small business. As Koreans espouse the notion of anjong (establishment), with its emphasis, on small business success, they create change in gender roles, kinship obligations, class structure, concepts of ethnicity, religious practice, and political organization.;Through an interpretation of their daily life experiences, I show that there is change in the system of ideas, and these dynamics can be explained by such contextual factors as age, generation, gender, socio economic status, migratory and legal status, and family developmental cycle.
