Abstract: Part I is a catalogue that lists the works of composer Ralph Shapey, numbered chronologically by date of completion, and includes eleven categories of information: title, number of movements, duration, instrumental forces number of pages, a brief physical description of the final copy (for example, "ink on tissue"), catalogue number of publication (almost exclusively by Presser Pub.), dedication, first performance (date, location, and performers, when available), reviews, and discography.;Part II discusses the method of composition Shapey has employed in all of his works written since 1981 which he calls "The Mother Lode." Included are a series of brief discussions of the "Mother Lode" as it is employed in the opening sections of five compositions: Evocation No. 3 (1981), Krosnick Soli (1983), Psalm I (1984), Theme Plus Ten for Harpsichord (1987), and Concertante II (1987).
