In order to obtain a thorough knowledge of the Spanish in Colombia it is necessary to research not only the standard Spanish but also the vernacular and colloquial language.;This work presents words and meanings, of the Spanish in Caldas (Colombia), that for any reason have been excluded from the dictionaries of standard Spanish as well as from the glossaries and vocabulary lists published up to date.;The material was obtained through surveys, questionnaires and recordings done in Caldas since 1983. This study also incorporates words and meanings coming from a vast majority of publications of vernacular authors from Caldas.;Finally, it is necessary to caution the reader that some meanings may not be limited to Caldas, as a matter of fact not only to Colombia, but the lack of similar studies about other areas does not give me the necessary tools to compare and identify the equivalency of meanings with other areas of Colombia.;This research differs from others studies about the Spanish language in Colombia because it offers a complete analysis and comparison with the Spanish slang in other areas not only from Colombia but also from Spain and Latin America.;This is a pioneer work because of the type of comparisons included and the methodology used. It also contributes to obtain a more complete understanding of the Spanish language and the different meanings that some words take in relation to its region.
