Abstract
-
Several thin layer chromatographic systems are presented in which a mobile phase gradient is generated during development. Potentiometric, spectrophotometric, photographic and gravimetric analysis of the plates during and after development provide evidence for the mechanism by which the gradient is formed. The effect of the gradient on the separation of metal ions is investigated. The gradient is employed in the separation of poly-L-glutamic acid fractions on the basis of their molecular weights.
