Abstract
-
Miguel de Cervantes' The Trabajos de Persiles y Sigismunda introduces important changes in the genre of the Greek novel, favored by European written in the XVIIth century. The Persiles is structured around adventure-time. However, during the Baroque period, the genre developed and stretched the limits of time categories to create new time categories.;Dual space in the Persiles responds to aesthetic reasons. Cervantes was conscious of the artistic possibilities offered by the cognitive tension between the known and unknown worlds. This tension allows the author to establish an organic relationship between the space and the "story" narrated throughout the novel, providing it with aesthetic unity. Cervantes intends to modernize the genre of the Greek novel, accommodating its motifs and his discourse to the space and the time of his period.
