Abstract
This thesis examines Federico Mompou's (1893--1987) Musica Callada within the context of musical, literary, and philosophical influences. Federico Mompou was a Spanish (Catalan) composer whose piano miniatures reflect the concentrated expression of his primitivista philosophy. Consideration is given to recorded performances of Musica Callada by Herbert Henck, Joseph Colom and Mompou himself.
