Abstract
The Modern Oboist's Transition to the Baroque Oboe presents a method for oboists who wish to explore and acquire the basic techniques for playing the Baroque oboe. A guide for players and teachers, it outlines the oboe's historical background and the structure of the instrument for greater understanding and appreciation of the modern oboe's predecessor. It includes instructional text, fingering and trill charts, discussion on the various aspects of style and technique, reed-making suggestions, exercises and easy tunes, and etudes from oboe and wind treatises of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The Modern Oboist's Transition considers the practical needs of the beginner and offers the more advanced oboist resources for the study and use of historical instruments, for exploring ideas on Baroque performance practices, and for incorporating them in one's musical experiences and performances.
