Abstract
-
This dissertation is concerned with the design and use of a real time packet voice network simulator and with using Delta Modulation as a voiceband modem waveform identifier.;The packet voice network simulator is used to examine two silence/speech detection schemes. Statistics for effective packet transmission rate and packet size are presented, for both schemes. Additionally, the physiological effects of packet loss and random delay are addressed.;The second part of the dissertation discusses the feasability of using Delta Modulation as a voiceband modem waveform identifier. The autocorrelation of the DM's digital output is used to distinguish between various synchronous modems. The DM autocorrelation can be used for automatic routing of data/voice over a digital/analog network.
