Abstract
-
A new approach to dual adaptive control, based on formulating a new performance criterion with a dual role and deriving a dual control law based on the formulated performance criterion, is presented for linear discrete time systems, with unknown parameters. There are two weighting scalars {dollar}\alpha{dollar} and {dollar}\lambda{dollar} in the new performance criterion, V(k) = V{dollar}\sb{lcub}\rm c{rcub}{dollar}(k) + {dollar}\alpha{dollar}u(k {dollar}-{dollar} 1){dollar}\sp2{dollar} + {dollar}\lambda{dollar}V{dollar}\sb{lcub}\rm i{rcub}{dollar}(k). By properly selecting the weighting scalars {dollar}\alpha{dollar} and {dollar}\lambda{dollar}, stability of the dual adaptive control algorithm for minimum phase and nonminimum phase systems can be achieved. Some extensions to the new dual adaptive control algorithm are presented so that the algorithm can be used with either a projection estimation algorithm or a least squares estimation algorithm. Finally an approximately 'error free' parameter estimation algorithm is presented so that the estimation error will approach zero.
